Get Ready To Go
What does a “tasting” involve?
Tastings range from low-key to in depth and are often at your own pace. Don’t be intimidated about not knowing where to start. Tasting Room staff love a newbie and are trained to take the mystery out of wines and guide you through an unforgettable experience.
Tasting options vary by winery. Many wineries offer several options depending on what type of day you’re planning. You’ll find that many offer several options – from flights with food pairings and a dedicated server for a small fee, to a go-at-your-own-pace sampling, or just a bottle at a table with friends. Each winery offers a different experience which is why you should visit as many as you can, but leave time to enjoy the property as many have more to do than just sample wine.
Will there be food options available?
Most wineries offer some sort of food option, whether it’s a cheese tray from a refrigerated case or a full restaurant menu. Food is not generally included with a basic tasting, but some wineries offer food and wine pairings as an enhanced tasting experience. Be sure to use the Find Your Spot page to find an option that offers the level of dining experience you want. Of note: outside alcohol and food is prohibited at all Indiana wineries as they are regulated by the state as food and beverage producers, much like a restaurant.
What about kids?
Minors are allowed by state law to visit Indiana wineries in most circumstances, however there are some locations that are adult-only. It’s always wise to confirm whether minors are permitted on premise before you go, as exceptions cannot be made.
Do I need a reservation?
It depends. In many cases all you need to do is walk in, pull up a bar stool, and get comfortable. However, it’s helpful if you let the winery know you’ll be visiting. In many cases you’ll find that a reservation isn’t required but they will appreciate the notice. It’s also possible that the winery you’re planning to visit is fully booked. It’s always a welcome courtesy and in your best interest to check the website for reservation options or call ahead to confirm there will be space.
Anything else I need to know?
Be sure to bring photo ID (military ID and passports will work), and always manage your consumption. We want you to enjoy our beautiful wines, but do so responsibly. Stay hydrated, nourished, and have a transportation plan (designated driver/Uber/limo, etc.).
